What drives the S-Presso's resale value

The S-Presso launched in 2019 as Maruti's entry point into micro-SUV-styled hatchback design, built on a modified version of the platform underpinning the WagonR and powered by the same 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine used across Maruti's smallest cars. It sits below the WagonR and Alto K10 in Maruti's lineup and is positioned primarily at first-time buyers and ride-hailing operators looking for low running costs.

Factory-fitted CNG has been available on the S-Presso since 2020, and it follows the broader entry-hatchback pattern of trading close to petrol parity outside high gas-penetration states, with a firmer premium in Gujarat, Delhi NCR, and parts of Maharashtra where CNG infrastructure is dense and running-cost sensitivity is highest.

The S-Presso benefits enormously from Maruti's unmatched service network and parts availability, which keeps resale liquidity high even for a relatively niche-styled model. Its boxy, raised-SUV-look design draws a mixed reception among some buyers, which caps its resale pull slightly below the more conventionally styled Alto K10 and WagonR at equivalent age and km.

AGS automatic variants, offered only on the VXi trim, have seen rising demand in the used market as automatic preference grows among first-time and city-only buyers, and the resale gap between AGS and manual S-Presso units has narrowed meaningfully since 2023.

How TheResaleValue calculates these numbers

Resale bands aggregate wholesale transaction prices across Indian metros, refreshed monthly. Age is calculated in whole years from the manufacturing date on the RC. Kilometre bands are self-reported and rounded to the nearest band. City adjustments apply an RTO-level multiplier on the all-India mid.

Frequently asked questions

What is the resale value of a Maruti S-Presso in India?

A well-maintained S-Presso retains roughly 71% of its ex-showroom price after two years, 63% after three years, and 49% after five years, as of September 2026. For a 2022 petrol VXi with 25,000-50,000 km, the current fair-market band is approximately ₹3.18–3.66 lakh.

Does S-Presso CNG hold value better than the petrol version?

Factory CNG S-Presso units trade at a modest premium over equivalent petrol across most of the current data, reflecting the running-cost advantage for budget-conscious and ride-hailing buyers, with the firmest premium in Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad, and other high gas-penetration markets.

Why does the S-Presso resell for slightly less than the Alto K10 or WagonR?

The S-Presso's distinctive micro-SUV styling draws a mixed reception among some used-car buyers, which keeps its five-year retention of about 49% a shade below the entry-hatchback segment average of 50%, even though it shares Maruti's service network advantages.

How much does an S-Presso depreciate per year?

The S-Presso depreciates roughly 18% in year one and another 11% in year two, before settling into a steadier 6-7% annual decline from year three onward. Ten-year retention sits at around 26%.

Which city gives the best resale price for an S-Presso?

Ahmedabad currently trades at +3% above the national mid, reflecting Maruti's dominant local presence and high liquidity, with Kolkata close behind at +2%. Chennai is the softest market at roughly -1%, where hatchback demand skews toward the Alto and Swift.
