What drives the Brezza's resale value

The Brezza nameplate traces back to the 2016 Vitara Brezza, which launched as a diesel-only compact SUV at a time when Maruti had no other diesel offering, and it became one of the fastest-selling SUVs in Indian history on the back of that gap. BS6 emission norms forced Maruti to drop diesel entirely from its lineup in 2020, and the car was relaunched in 2022 as the second-generation Brezza, petrol and CNG only, with a new face and the Vitara prefix dropped.

That diesel-to-petrol transition created a durable split in the used market: pre-2020 diesel Vitara Brezzas, now five years old or more, command loyal demand from buyers who specifically want a frugal highway diesel SUV, while the petrol-and-CNG second generation targets buyers prioritising running costs and Maruti's reliability reputation over outright fuel efficiency.

Factory-fitted CNG, offered across LXi, VXi, and ZXi trims, is a significant resale driver in Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad, and other Gujarat markets, where it trades close to equivalent petrol despite the roughly 10–15% lower boot space. The torque-converter 6-speed automatic, which replaced an older 4-speed unit with the second generation, has also closed much of the historical automatic-versus-manual resale gap seen on the first-generation car.

Maruti's Nexa retail network and parts availability remain the Brezza's biggest structural resale advantage over rivals like the Nexon or Venue, particularly in tier-2 and tier-3 towns where service turnaround time weighs heavily on a used buyer's decision.

How TheResaleValue calculates these numbers

Resale bands aggregate wholesale transaction prices across Indian metros, refreshed monthly. Age is calculated in whole years from the manufacturing date on the RC. Kilometre bands are self-reported and rounded to the nearest band. City adjustments apply an RTO-level multiplier on the all-India mid.

Frequently asked questions

What is the resale value of a Maruti Brezza in India?

A well-maintained Brezza retains approximately 72% of its ex-showroom price after two years, 64% after three years, and 51% after five years. For a 2022 ZXi petrol with 25,000–50,000 km, the current fair-market band is roughly ₹7.08–8.15 lakh.

Does Brezza CNG hold value better than the petrol version?

They trade close to each other, typically within 1–2%, but factory CNG commands a firmer premium specifically in Delhi NCR and Ahmedabad, where fuel-cost-conscious buyers are willing to pay close to petrol pricing for the running-cost advantage.

Is the old diesel Vitara Brezza worth buying used?

Yes, if serviced regularly, since the diesel engine has a strong reliability reputation and diesel SUVs still draw dedicated buyers for highway use. Expect pricing to reflect its 2016–2020 production window and keep an eye on upcoming state-level age restrictions on older diesel vehicles in some metros.

How much does a Brezza depreciate per year?

Roughly 17% in year one and 11% more in year two, before settling into 7–8% annual declines. The five-year retention of about 51% sits a few points above the compact-SUV segment average of 47%.

Which city gives the best resale price for a Brezza?

Mumbai and Bengaluru currently trade at approximately +3% above the national mid on tight used-SUV supply, with Ahmedabad close behind at +3% on strong CNG demand. Kolkata is the softest market at around −2%.
