What drives the Nexon's resale value

The Nexon is Tata's best-selling model and India's top-selling sub-4m SUV in most quarters since 2022. Resale strength lags Maruti and Hyundai peers by 3 to 5 percentage points at three years, reflecting Tata's smaller service network and slower parts turnaround in tier-2 cities, though the gap has narrowed each year since the 2023 facelift.

The September 2023 facelift changed the front-end design language, moved to a dual-screen dashboard, and re-tuned the suspension for better ride comfort. Pre-facelift 2020 to 2023 Nexon units have re-rated downwards by 5 to 7% since, a bigger drop than a typical mid-cycle refresh would trigger.

The Nexon has a 5-star Global NCAP rating (2018 test protocol) and this shows up in resale, particularly for family-buyer permutations at 25,000 to 50,000 km. Safety-first buyers actively seek out the Nexon on the used market, which puts a soft floor under 2020+ prices.

Diesel Nexon retains value better than petrol by 4 to 6 percentage points at three years. Automatic diesel (AMT) variants are the highest-liquidity permutation, though the dry-clutch DCT on the turbo-petrol has a mixed reliability reputation on owner forums and is priced accordingly.

Colour matters more on the Nexon than on segment peers. Flame Red and Calgary White hold within 1% of the model average, while Foliage Green and Royal Blue trade 2 to 3% below.

How TheResaleValue calculates these numbers

Resale bands aggregate wholesale transaction prices across Indian metros, refreshed monthly. Age is calculated in whole years from the manufacturing date on the RC. Kilometre bands are self-reported and rounded to the nearest band. City adjustments apply an RTO-level multiplier on the all-India mid.

Frequently asked questions

What is the resale value of a Tata Nexon in India?

A well-maintained Nexon retains approximately 71% of its ex-showroom price after two years, 62% after three years, and 47% after five years. For a 2022 XZ+ petrol with 25,000 to 50,000 km, the current fair-market band is roughly ₹5.30 to ₹6.20 lakh.

Does the Nexon hold value as well as the Brezza?

Not quite. The Nexon retains about 62% at three years versus 68 to 70% for the Maruti Brezza, a 6 to 8 percentage point gap that reflects Maruti's larger service network and higher buyer familiarity in tier-2 cities. In metros with strong SUV demand like Bengaluru and Mumbai, the gap narrows to 3 to 4 percentage points.

Is the pre-2023 Nexon worth buying used?

Yes, if the car has been serviced regularly and has less than 60,000 km. The pre-facelift Nexon has a solid safety rating, mature drivetrain, and now trades 10 to 15% below the equivalent post-facelift car. The main risks to inspect are the AMT actuator on 2019 to 2021 units and clear-coat peeling on Foliage Green and Daytona Grey paint.

Which city gives the best resale for a Nexon?

Bengaluru and Mumbai currently trade at approximately +3 to +4% above the national mid, driven by strong SUV demand. Kolkata is soft at −2%.

How much does a Nexon depreciate per year?

Roughly 18% in year one, 11% additional in year two, then 8 to 9% per year through year five. The five-year retention of about 47% is 1 percentage point below the sub-4m SUV segment average of 48%.
