What drives the Dzire's resale value

The Dzire has been India's best-selling compact sedan for most of the last decade, and much of that volume comes from fleet and taxi operators as well as private buyers, a dual demand base that keeps its resale floor unusually stable compared to sedans that rely purely on private buyers. The all-new fourth generation, launched in 2024 on the Global C platform shared with the current Swift, replaced a third-generation car that had been on sale since 2017.

Unlike the Swift, which switched to a 3-cylinder engine with its latest generation, the Dzire retained the familiar 1.2-litre Z-series petrol engine lineage that Maruti buyers already trust, which has helped the new generation gain acceptance faster in the used market than might otherwise be expected for an all-new model.

Factory CNG, added to the fourth-generation Dzire shortly after launch, is a meaningful resale driver in Delhi NCR and Gujarat, where fleet and personal buyers alike prize the lower running cost. Because boot space is only modestly reduced by the CNG tank on a sedan of this size, take-rates and resale demand for CNG trims are higher than on equivalent hatchbacks.

The Dzire's taxi-fleet association, which some private buyers see as a mild negative for everyday ownership, is more than offset at resale by the certainty it brings: a huge used supply, extremely well-understood maintenance costs, and a mechanic in every town, all of which support the Dzire's above-segment-average retention through the five-year mark.

How TheResaleValue calculates these numbers

Resale bands aggregate wholesale transaction prices across Indian metros, refreshed monthly. Age is calculated in whole years from the manufacturing date on the RC. Kilometre bands are self-reported and rounded to the nearest band. City adjustments apply an RTO-level multiplier on the all-India mid.

Frequently asked questions

What is the resale value of a Maruti Dzire in India?

A well-maintained Dzire retains approximately 73% of its ex-showroom price after two years, 65% after three years, and 52% after five years. For a 2022 ZXi petrol with 25,000–50,000 km, the current fair-market band is roughly ₹4.75–5.46 lakh.

Does Dzire CNG hold value better than petrol?

Yes, modestly. Factory CNG Dzire trims trade close to or slightly above equivalent petrol variants in Delhi NCR and Ahmedabad, where running-cost-conscious fleet and personal buyers specifically seek out CNG.

Is the new 4th-generation Dzire worth more than the older model?

Yes, the 2024-onward 4th-generation Dzire commands a meaningful premium over the 2017–2024 3rd-generation car at equivalent age and kilometres, driven by its newer safety features and Global NCAP rating, though the gap should narrow over the next year or two as used-market supply of the new generation grows.

How much does a Dzire depreciate per year?

Roughly 16% in year one and 9% more in year two, before settling into 6–7% annual declines. The five-year retention of about 52% is a few points above the sedan segment average of 46%, helped by consistent fleet and taxi demand.

Which city gives the best resale price for a Dzire?

Ahmedabad currently trades at approximately +3% above the national mid on strong CNG demand, with Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru close behind at +1 to +2%. Kolkata is the softest market at around −1%.
