Five-year retention lands at about 49% and ten-year retention at about 26%, compared with a segment average of about 49% at five years and 25% at ten. City-wise price variance
Resale values for the Tiago vary by 3–5 percentage points across Indian metros, driven by supply-demand tightness, RTO transfer friction, and CNG infrastructure. Numbers below are deltas against the all-India mid.
What drives the Tiago's resale value
The Tiago launched in 2016 on Tata's ALFA architecture, which also underpins the Tigor and the Altroz, and was positioned as a value- and feature-rich alternative to Maruti's WagonR and Hyundai's Grand i10. A 2020 facelift brought a larger grille and revised bumpers, and a further 2023 update refreshed the dashboard and added convenience features without touching the core mechanicals.
The 1.2-litre Revotron three-cylinder petrol, available with a manual or AMT automatic, remains the mainstay engine. A factory-fitted iCNG option introduced in 2021 quickly became a strong seller in gas-network-heavy states. Diesel was discontinued once BS6 emission norms made small-diesel-engine compliance uneconomical for this segment, so no current or recent Tiago sells with a diesel engine.
The Tiago built an early reputation on class-leading crash-test safety, among the first Indian hatchbacks to score well on Global NCAP testing, which supports buyer confidence at resale. Even so, Tata's hatchback resale values still trail Maruti's equivalent models, reflecting Maruti's larger used-car ecosystem, broader spare-parts availability in smaller towns, and brand trust built over decades that Tata's passenger-car business is still catching up to.
CNG Tiagos hold value noticeably better in high-CNG-penetration markets like Delhi NCR and Ahmedabad, where running-cost savings keep demand firm, while petrol-AMT variants tend to depreciate a touch faster as resale buyers increasingly favour manual Tiagos for lower perceived maintenance cost.
How TheResaleValue calculates these numbers
Resale bands aggregate wholesale transaction prices across Indian metros, refreshed monthly. Age is calculated in whole years from the manufacturing date on the RC. Kilometre bands are self-reported and rounded to the nearest band. City adjustments apply an RTO-level multiplier on the all-India mid.

Frequently asked questions
What is the resale value of a Tata Tiago in India?
A well-maintained Tiago retains approximately 70% of its ex-showroom price after two years and around 49% after five years, as of September 2026. For a 2022 XT petrol with 25,000–50,000 km, the current fair-market band is roughly ₹3.83–4.41 lakh.
Does the Tiago CNG hold value better than the petrol version?
Yes, in CNG-heavy markets like Delhi NCR and Ahmedabad, the iCNG Tiago trades firmer than equivalent petrol because of running-cost savings; both fuels follow the same underlying retention curve, so the premium is driven by local demand rather than a different depreciation rate.
Does the Tiago resell as well as a Maruti hatchback?
Not quite. The hatchback segment (including Swift, WagonR, and i20) averages about 63% retention at three years and 49% at five years, while the Tiago sits a touch lower at 62% and 49% respectively, reflecting Maruti's larger resale ecosystem.
How much does a Tiago depreciate per year?
The Tiago depreciates about 19% in year one, then roughly 4–6 percentage points of retention per year through year five, when it sits near 49% of ex-showroom.
Which city gives the best resale price for a Tiago?
Delhi NCR and Ahmedabad currently trade around 3% above the national mid, both strong CNG markets. Kolkata trades roughly 2% below baseline, with a softer and slower-moving used small-car market.
