City-wise price variance
Resale values for the Altroz vary by 3–5 percentage points across Indian metros, driven by supply-demand tightness, RTO transfer friction, and CNG infrastructure. Numbers below are deltas against the all-India mid.
What drives the Altroz's resale value
The Altroz launched in January 2020 as Tata's first entry in the premium hatchback segment and remains the brand's only Global NCAP 5-star-rated hatchback achieved without structural changes, a result that became a central part of Tata's broader safety-first marketing push. That reputation has carried into the used market, where safety credentials are increasingly cited by resale buyers as a reason to pay a modest premium over rival hatchbacks with lower crash-test ratings.
Unlike most hatchbacks in its price band, the Altroz has offered a diesel engine throughout its life, the 1.5-litre Revotorq, alongside the 1.2-litre Revotron petrol. As diesel supply across the industry has shrunk, used Altroz diesel units, particularly those bought for long commutes or interstate driving, now command a firmer resale premium over equivalent petrol cars than they did at launch, since fewer new diesel hatchbacks are being sold to replace them.
The 1.2-litre turbocharged iTurbo petrol, added in 2021, brought meaningfully higher output and was later paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic in 2023, giving the Altroz the only DCT option in its immediate hatchback peer group at the time. Factory CNG arrived in 2023 as iCNG, widening the car's appeal to buyers prioritising running costs, and these CNG units have held value well in gas-pipeline-dense cities.
Tata's service network, while smaller than Maruti's or Hyundai's, has expanded steadily, and this has narrowed what was once a meaningful resale gap against Japanese and Korean hatchbacks. The Altroz's depreciation curve now tracks close to the segment average for well-maintained cars, with the steepest drop in the first eighteen months followed by a more gradual decline through the five-year mark.
How TheResaleValue calculates these numbers
Resale bands aggregate wholesale transaction prices across Indian metros, refreshed monthly. Age is calculated in whole years from the manufacturing date on the RC. Kilometre bands are self-reported and rounded to the nearest band. City adjustments apply an RTO-level multiplier on the all-India mid.

Frequently asked questions
What is the resale value of a Tata Altroz in India?
A well-maintained Altroz retains roughly 71% of its ex-showroom value after two years and 63% after three years, as of September 2026. A 2023 petrol XM with 25,000-50,000 km currently trades in a fair-market band of roughly ₹6.0-6.5 lakh.
Does the Altroz diesel hold value better than the petrol?
Yes, currently diesel Altroz units trade at a premium over equivalent-age petrol cars because fewer new diesel hatchbacks are being sold industry-wide, concentrating demand for long-distance and high-mileage buyers onto the shrinking pool of existing diesel cars.
How much does a Tata Altroz depreciate per year?
The Altroz loses about 18% in year one and a further 9% in year two, then settles into a 6-7% annual decline through years three to five, reaching roughly 50% retention at the five-year mark.
Does the Altroz's 5-star safety rating affect its resale value?
It contributes a modest, hard-to-isolate premium. Buyers increasingly cite the Global NCAP rating during negotiation, and Altroz units generally hold within or slightly above the hatchback segment average, a reversal from the resale discount Tata cars carried a decade earlier.
Which city gives the best resale price for an Altroz?
Mumbai and Ahmedabad currently trade at roughly +2% above the national mid, driven by strong premium-hatchback demand and CNG infrastructure respectively, while Kolkata trades at around -2% due to a slower-moving hatchback market.
